CarePortal is an online platform that connects struggling families with children to churches who are willing to help.  In particular, the platform serves foster families or children that in danger of entering foster care. It’s not abuse that’s fueling this crisis, but rather, neglect stemming from the overwhelming effects of poverty. Many parents are struggling to secure the vital means and support they need to provide for their family’s basic needs. Preventing neglect and keeping thousands of children from experiencing harmful disruption in their lives is entirely possible through interventions focused on stabilizing and strengthening families.

Requests for help are posted by social workers at local departments of social services and as well as other agencies like Total Action for Progress, The Roanoke Rescue Mission, The Blue Ridge Women’s Center, and a couple school systems.

In late 2004, Virginia’s Catholic bishops founded the Virginia Catholic Conference to represent them and their dioceses of Arlington and Richmond by advocating for public policy that reflects natural law, advances human dignity and serves the common good. The Conference primarily addresses policy issues considered by the Virginia General Assembly and state agencies. In addition, the Conference supports the efforts of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which addresses federal policy issues considered by the U.S. Congress and executive branch in Washington, D.C.
